About Bow Valley Equine Adaptive (BVEA)

Experience the transformative power of therapeutic riding in the stunning Rocky Mountains with Bow Valley Equine Adaptive! Our program goes beyond horsemanship, providing physical therapy, muscle strengthening, and emotional well-being through the unique connection between riders and horses. As we embark on another rewarding season, we eagerly welcome both new and returning participants to join us on this incredible journey.

Our Vision

We champion the benefits and joys of equine activities for those with diverse physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioural needs in the Bow Valley.

Our Mission

  • To empower individuals of all ages through safe and adaptive equine activities.
  • By fostering meaningful connections with horses, participants gain confidence, strength, and independence—all while having fun.
  • Our dedicated volunteers and community partners are the heart of our program, making every ride a step toward growth and success.

“It’s been an amazing experience for my three boys. My twins didn’t want to wear helmets. I thought they’d ride the horses for 10-15 minutes. They sat for the whole lesson, and they were laughing and smiling the whole time. So relaxed. I’m so glad all three boys can do something together. Sue and all the volunteers are amazing!”

Bow Valley Equine Adaptive – Founded in 2001

The original concept for Bow Valley Equine Adaptive was founded in 2001 by Anne Gallagher, local physiotherapist and small group from the community, parents of children with disabilities, community therapists and horse enthusiasts. 2014 Sue Clark started a horsemanship program.

In 2024, we embarked on an exciting rebranding journey, transitioning from Rundle Riders to Bow Valley Equine Adaptive. While we cherished our original name, we recognized that it could be ambiguous and sometimes mistaken for a cycling group. Our goal was to choose a name that clearly reflected our mission and work.

After thoughtful consideration, our board and team selected Bow Valley Equine Adaptive, a name that better represents our dedication to equine-assisted programs. To bring our new identity to life, we partnered with a local graphic designer to create a fresh logo that embodies our vision. With our rebranding complete, we were proud to launch our new website in 2025, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for our organization.
